Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 August 2026 · Applies to the STLAR Android app (com.randotechnerd.stltoar), published by RandoTechNerd.

STLAR does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no server. Every 3D model you open is processed entirely on your device and never leaves it.

What STLAR accesses, and why

Camera

Used only to display the augmented-reality view, so a model can be shown at true size in your surroundings.

  • Camera frames are processed live on your device and are never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
  • The camera is active only while the AR screen is open.
  • A frame is saved only if you deliberately press the capture or share button, and then only to the location you chose.

Your 3D files

STL, 3MF, GLB and glTF files you open are read from your device, converted on your device, and kept in the app’s private storage so recent models can be reopened. They are never uploaded, never inspected, and never indexed. Removing a model from Recents, or uninstalling STLAR, deletes the app’s copy.

Photos you capture

AR photos are written to Pictures/STLAR, or to a folder you pick in Settings. A copy is kept in the app’s private cache purely so the share sheet can attach it. Photos are shared only with apps you explicitly choose from the share menu.

Storage

STLAR does not request broad storage permission. Files are opened through Android’s system file picker, which grants access only to the specific file you select.

Network use

STLAR makes no network requests. No part of the app uploads, downloads, or synchronises anything.

You will see an internet permission listed on the Google Play page. To be straightforward about it: that permission is declared by the open-source 3D rendering library STLAR is built on (SceneView/Filament), which supports loading models from a URL. STLAR only ever loads models from local files and contains no networking code of its own.

Two things do involve the network, both under your control:

  • Links you tap — the website, YouTube, Discord, Buy Me a Coffee and the email address on the About screen — open in your browser or mail app, which have their own privacy policies.
  • Google Play Services for AR (ARCore) is a separate Google application that provides motion tracking. It is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy, not this one.

What STLAR does not do

  • No user accounts, sign-in, or profiles
  • No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or usage tracking
  • No advertising or ad identifiers
  • No location data
  • No contacts, microphone, or call data
  • No data sold or shared with third parties — there is no data to sell

Children

STLAR is a 3D printing utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a revised date. Because STLAR collects nothing, material changes are unlikely.
